Sin No More: John 8:9-11 – “When the accusers heard this, they slipped away one by one, beginning with the oldest, until only Jesus was left in the middle of the crowd with the woman. Then Jesus stood up again and said to the woman, ‘Where are your accusers? Didn’t even one of them condemn you?’ ‘No, Lord,’ she said. And Jesus said, ‘Neither do I. Go and sin no more.’”

This scripture in John 8 is at the end of the story where some guys caught a girl in the act of adultery. They brought her out to stone her to death. They brought her before Jesus, as if to seek His approval or see if they could use His answer against Him later. He doesn’t fall for their trap; go read what happens.

The word “repent” comes to mind. There are two halves to this definition, and both are important to the full awareness of repentance. The first half of the definition of repentance is the admitting of your sin which is almost always (or should always be) accompanied by regret, sorrow, and heartache because of the conviction that you feel. The second half of the definition of repentance sometimes gets left in the dark. Let’s shed some light on it.

The second half of repentance (which will complete the definition) is the act of turning away from the sin that you have admitted to and that you have asked forgiveness for. No longer live as a slave to that sin, but live as an instrument of righteousness. Live as a child of God, as an heir to His throne, as a co-heir with Jesus Christ! Repent = Admit sin + Turn away from sin.

Read these verses from Paul. He spends much time informing people that they are new creations in Christ Jesus, and he encourages us all to live our lives in these new “suits” and to throw our old sinful lives in the trash. 2 Corinthians 5:17, Ephesians 4:17-32, Ephesians 5:1-21, Romans 6:1-14. Pray that God will give you the strength to get out of the sin rut that you find yourself in. Live in your new life created in your Savior, Jesus Christ!

** I encourage you to use these passages from God’s Word as a resource in your daily life. Don’t let this truth just rest on this tag or on this shirt. Use it!
