Obey His Word: John 14:15, 23-24 – “15If you love me, you will obey what I command.” “23Jesus replied, ‘If anyone loves me, he will obey my teaching. My Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him. 24He who does not love me will not obey my teaching. These words you hear are not my own; they belong to the Father who sent me.’”
It’s the most simple litmus test you can think of. You say you love God, you sing it in church, you pray it, you sing the songs in your headphones and on your radio about loving Him . . . so are you obedient? Do you live as though you love God? Are you living your life with God, or is it just a weekend thing at church? Do you have separate friends depending on which setting you are in? Would school or work friends recognize you at church, or would your church friends recognize you at school or work?
I am not asking to make you upset or to make you mad at me. I’m definitely asking like I’m sitting up on my high horse as some righteous guy asking all church goers if they are true Christ Followers. But, I am humbly asking you if you have become complaisant in your walk with God to where His Word doesn’t change the way you live?
Obedience to God is living God’s Word because you want to and because you enjoy being filled with the love of Jesus. Remember that Jesus died for us so that we may stop living for ourselves and start living for Him.(2 Corinthians 5:15) Have you stopped living for yourself, for your own ambitions, for your own gain? Are you using everything you own and everything you’re good at to further His kingdom and spread the Gospel?
Allow God’s Word to renew your mind which will change the way you think, then change the way you speak, and then change the way you act and live. Don’t be like the man who looks at himself in the mirror, turns to walk away, then immediately forgets what He looks like.(James 1:22-25) Read God’s Word, saturate your life with His wisdom and His truth, and apply His teaching to your life.
