Faith and Hoverboards: Matthew 14:25-33 – During the fourth watch of the night Jesus went out to them, walking on the lake.  When the disciples saw him walking on the lake, they were terrified. “It’s a ghost,” they said, and cried out in fear. But Jesus immediately said to them: “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.” “Lord, if it’s you,” Peter replied, “tell me to come to you on the water.” “Come,” he said. Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!” Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt?” And when they climbed into the boat, the wind died down. Then those who were in the boat worshiped him, saying, “Truly you are the Son of God.”

In just a few verses, a life’s story of faith is displayed. We meet Jesus, we focus in on Him, our faith in Him becomes our primary motivation, we act on our faith in Jesus, we get distracted somehow, we cry out to Him to rescue us again and again, and our relationship with Him is strengthened.

Put simply, our faith in God, our faith in Jesus should cause us to act on that faith! We are a new person, a new creation when we meet our Savior. We are transformed, so we should BE TRANSFORMED, be different than before, act in a new way, live our new life in Jesus, step out of the boat, live life by our faith in God. God-talk without God-walk is nonsense.

Go read James 2:14-26. Don’t get sucked into the argument that you can work your way into heaven. Instead, try to realize that faith in Jesus will make you different and it should cause you to be and act different. Be clothed in Christ, be filled with the Holy Spirit, let your faith in Jesus move you onto the water.
