24 Hour Witness: As Christians, we are supposed to tell others about Jesus. As His followers, we are told to tell anyone and everyone the good news of the Gospel; the good news that Jesus was God’s son, that He died for the sins of the whole world, that He rose to life on the third day, and that we can have everlasting life with God in Heaven if we believe in this truth.
The New Testament is filled with encouragement and instruction about being a witness for Jesus Christ, about sharing your faith in the One who died for the sins of the whole world. Maybe one of the most famous passages in the Bible about being a witness and sharing your faith is in Mathew 4:18-20. “As Jesus was walking beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon called Peter and his brother Andrew. They were casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. ‘Come, follow me,’ Jesus said, ‘and I will make you fishers of men.’ At once they left their nets and followed him.”
Here’s the same verse in the Message translation, “They were fishing, throwing their nets into the lake. It was their regular work. Jesus said to them, ‘Come with me. I’ll make a new kind of fisherman out of you. I’ll show you how to catch men and women instead of perch and bass.’ They didn’t ask questions, but simply dropped their nets and followed.”
We are supposed to shine our light for Jesus 24/7/365. No off days, no sick days, just life filled with the love of God and sharing it with everyone around us. In Acts 1:8, Jesus tells His followers that they will be His witnesses all over the place, even all the way to the “ends of the earth.” In Matthew 28:19-20, Jesus instructs His followers to go tell everyone about Him and teach them to obey.
Jesus is talking about being used by God to reach people who don’t yet know Jesus and introducing them to a personal relationship with Him. No longer trying to catch fish, but trying to reach lost people for Jesus, that’s the idea! There’s no time to be ashamed of Jesus or to be scared to share what He has done for you. Go read Luke 9:26 and Romans 1:16!
** I encourage you to use these passages from God’s Word as a resource in your daily life. Don’t let this truth just rest on this tag or on this shirt. Use it! Let it become a part of you, let the scripture be written on your heart and move you to live your life in obedience to God out of love. Dive into God’s Word, spend time with Him in prayer, connect with other believers, live for Jesus who died for your sins and rose again! **
