When I think about obstacles that hinder me from being obedient to God, for some reason I think about this old commercial way back from 1997. Sure, it’s ridiculous – a bunch of punks going crazy for a soda. But my imagination is weird like that, so just watch it and try to understand where I’m taking you, lol.
I know they are only jumping over couches and fighting off each other. But these guys aren’t letting anything stop them from reaching their goal, even IF their goal is to get the the Surge soda first. So, when you read God’s commands and instructions in your Bible, or when the Holy Spirit directs your life in a certain way, what obstacles are in your life that hinder your obedience? When you identify those obstacles (whether it’s selfishness or fear or money for missions or your reputation or your circle of friends or the high you feel from drugs and alcohol), do you give up without a fight? Or, do you tell God that you will be obedient to His call and His commands, and ask Him for the strength and wisdom to overcome ANYTHING that’s in front of you? Do you get a running start when you face things that could stop you from obeying God, or do you throw up your hands and give up?
Don’t let anything get in the way of, or scare you away from, sharing Jesus. Take all of your fears and excuses and throw them in the garbage. Submit your lives to God, no matter where He calls you to go, or who He asks you to witness to.
2 Corinthians 4:16-18
“So we’re not giving up. How could we! Even though on the outside it often looks like things are falling apart on us, on the inside, where God is making new life, not a day goes by without his unfolding grace. These hard times are small potatoes compared to the coming good times, the lavish celebration prepared for us. There’s far more here than meets the eye. The things we see now are here today, gone tomorrow. But the things we can’t see now [God's grace] will last forever.”
