Peacemaker

Matthew 5:9
“Blessed are the peacemakers,
for they will be called sons of God.”

Jesus didn’t say “blessed are the peace-lovers”, because everyone enjoys peace. Nor did He say, “blessed are the peaceable who are easy going and never let anything bother them”. Being a peacemaker is different than being a person who doesn’t let anything bother them or someone who enjoys peace. Peacemakers are rare because peace-making is hard work. But it’s worth the effort.

Relationships are always worth restoring. God wants us to value our relationships instead of discarding them every time there’s a problem. Paul wrote, “Is there any encouragement from belonging to Christ? Any comfort from his love? Any fellowship together in the Spirit? Are your hearts tender and compassionate? Then make me truly happy by agreeing wholeheartedly with each other, loving one another, and working together with one mind and purpose.” (Philippians 2:1-2)

The ability to get along well with other believers is a mark of spiritual maturity. God wants His family to be known for their love of each other. Broken relationships hurt our witness and our testimony to others. Paul, in his letter to the church in Corinth, was upset with the way the people were separating inside the church and breaking into warring factions. He was shocked that no one had the spiritual maturity to resolve the conflicts peaceably. Where ever you are, as long as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. And, even when it’s difficult, ask for God’s wisdom to become a peacemaker.
