1 Corinthians 5:6-8
6Your boasting is not good. Don’t you know that a little yeast works through the whole batch of dough? 7Get rid of the old yeast that you may be a new batch without yeast-as you really are. For Christ, our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed. 8Therefore let us keep the Festival, not with the old yeast, the yeast of malice and wickedness, but with bread without yeast, the bread of sincerity and truth.

1 Peter 1:17-20
17Since you call on a Father who judges each man’s work impartially, live your lives as strangers here in reverent fear. 18For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your forefathers, 19but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect. 20He was chosen before the creation of the world, but was revealed in these last times for your sake.

Commentary
Not only did Jesus die in your place and save you from eternal death, but He also brought you into a NEW family. Check out Hebrews 2:11, “For the One who sacrifices and those who are sanctified all have one Father. That is why He is not ashamed to call them brothers.”

As a Christian, you’re part of God’s family. I’m part of God’s family. We are all part of God’s family; we are all children of God. Congratulations, welcome to the family!

Think of that old yeast up there in the scripture like your old way of life before you turned it over to Jesus. Verse 8 says the old yeast is malice and wickedness. But Jesus is our sacrificial Passover Lamb, He gave His life to save ours. Once for all! So now we are encouraged, as new members in Gods family, as sons and daughters of our heavenly Father, to live our new life in Christ, live with this new yeast penetrating throughout us. The new yeast is said to be like sincerity and truth (much different that malice and wickedness). It’s an attitude change, a heart change, and a mind change. It’s a overhaul of our lives.
